While mixed martial arts (MMA) fans have continued to grovel over the status of Gilbert Melendez, bemoaning the fact that he's yet to make his way over to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the Cesar Gracie trained slugger has continued to run roughshod over the Strikeforce lightweight division.
Indeed, the two have clashed three times now with last night's (Sat., May 19, 2012) sojourn in San Jose representing the third and final chapter in their thrilling trilogy.

The once hotly anticipated Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix came to a close last night (Sat., May 19, 2012) at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., as Daniel Cormier claimed his crown (or belt, as it were) with a five-round unanimous decision victory over veteran grappler Josh Barnett.
Despite his lack of experience in professional mixed martial arts (MMA), at least in comparison to his opponent, Cormier was able to overcome "The Warmaster" after 25 minutes inside the cage with the vested veteran. Read more >>

The Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix FINALLY concluded tonight (Sat., May 19, 2012) at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, as Josh Barnett met Daniel Cormier in the finals to determine who went home with the tournament belt.
Barnett got here by submitting both Brett Rogers and Sergei Kharitonov via arm triangle while Cormier entered as an alternate in place of Alistair Overeem and knocked out Antonio Silva in the first round. And more than one year after it started, a winner was crowned.
Congratulations, Daniel Cormier, the honor is yours.
It's fitting, really, that an alternate was the man to ultimately win the fractured tournament. Read more >>

UFC Light Heavyweight Jon Jones was arrested early this morning after crashing his near $200,000 Bentley into a pole.
TMZ.com spoke to Law enforcement officials who informed them that Jones crashed the car at around 5:00am in Binghamton, NY. Jones, totaling it, and was then arrested on the scene for driving under the influence.
Jones was taken into custody and then later bailed out by his mom.

Ladies and gentlemen, a new Bellator middleweight title challenger has been crowned.
Last night (Fri., May 18, 2012), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran Maiquel Falcao got on his grind and scored a unanimous decision victory over Andreas Spang. The pre-fight hype promised fireworks, and they delivered early with Spang nearly scoring a knockout, but after that it was Grapple City and Falcao was the mayor.

When Josh Barnett finally lost the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Championship, he didn't do so after getting knocked out by a challenger. It wasn't after an opponent wrapped his arms around Barnett's neck, forcing the American to tap.

We're down to four!
The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 15, episode 11, showcased the last two quarterfinal match ups, as well as the revealing of who will fill the shoes of injured TUF coach and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz in the UFC 148 co-main event versus Urijah Faber.
The first quarterfinal bout saw Vinc Pichel of "Team Cruz" win a very close decision victory over "Team Faber's" Chris Saunders. The decision was somewhat controversial, as everyone in the building seemed to think a third, sudden-death round was coming, before UFC President Dana White entered the Octagon to make it know that the fight was done.
In the last quarterfinal pairing, two members of "Team Faber" went to war, as Al Iaquinta was simply too much for Andy Ogle, en route to a first round KO victory that proved he is deserving of being "The California Kid's" first overall pick.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and FX collaborated for the latest "Primetime" series, which follows Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos as he prepares to fight former division kingpin and de facto number one contender, Frank Mir, in the main event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 26, 2012.
This second episode features a deeper look into the back stories of both men, like "Cigano" coming from the poverty ridden streets of Brazil that has taught him to pay it forward in regards to his mixed martial arts (MMA) training.

Urijah Faber now has an opponent for UFC 148's interim Bantamweight Title fight as it was announced on last night's episode of The Ultimate Fighter: Live by UFC President Dana White that "The California Kid" will face Renan Barao.
Barao will replace the injured current Champion Dominick Cruz who tore his ACL in training and has no clear return date to competition. The bout would have been the third between Cruz and Faber with the two splitting the previous fights. Read more >>
